This section seeks information about how digital libraries are organized. The definition of "digital libraries" as agreed to by the DLF (also noted at top of page 1 of this survey) is: "organizations that provide the resources, including the specialized staff, to select, structure, offer intellectual access to, interpret, distribute, preserve the integrity of, and ensure the persistence over time of collections of digital works so that they are readily and economically available for use by a defined community or set of communities." The phrase "digital works" is used broadly to include works created locally as well as those supplied by commercial and other third parties. The phrase also includes those that are born digital as well as those that are not.
