C. DLF Tools Registry Follow-up Questions

  1. Planning for the use of an existing registry
  2. Planning for a new DLF registry

1. Planning for the use of an existing registry

These are questions to ask if we think the best course of action is to use an existing registry rather than build a new one.

What is the current registry usage by DLF developers?

Do you use any of the existing registries listed in the Environmental Scan? If so, would you recommend this registry for broader use by DLF member institutions?

Is there value in promoting a single existing registry for DLF tools?

If developers want to continue using a variety of registries, can we agree on a common DLF tag identifier?

Some of the existing registries allow the depositor to tag the entry with metadata. Can we agree on a tag, such as “DLF” to indicate “produced by a DLF member”? Does this provide any added value?

2. Planning for a new DLF Registry

These are questions to ask if we think the best course of action is to create a DLF specific Tools Registry.

What should the submission and access permission rules be?

Who is allowed to submit to the registry? Who can view the registry? Should it be open to the public, or restricted to DLF member institutions?

What should the feature set by? Who should decide?

Registries support a wide variety of features. If we proceed with starting up a new registry, how do we decide which features are important and which are not?

How will access and navigation work?

How would users browse tools? By platform? By subject area? By institution?
