Technologically, the growth of the DLC has been less systematic and disciplined and more organic and free form resulting in an interesting, Frankenstein-like beast assembled from a wide variety of technological parts (Perl, PHP, Java, MySQL, Oracle, etc.).
But it works and has made an important impact on the field.
And this diverse technological background in many ways reflects the diversity and interdisciplinarity of the collections and user-base of the Digital Library of the Commons.
