Our solution was not to take questions of access, preservation and control together. Instead, we separated concerns of preservation and access in both space and time. We believe that this will make the system secure enough to hold ‘dark archives’ or restricted content and public domain material at the same time.

In addition, we have tried to build the system around a few simple principles, so that for a wide variety of different futures, the system will continue to function, and to allow the stakeholders to use it in ways we can’t currently imagine.
