•Began as Knowledge Gateway Project in 2001.
•Designed to be a portal to the digital
collections of the University.
•March 2004 launch date for site and several
collections.

•Registry seen as a solution to UTOPIA development
questions
•Provide a database solution for running
collection sites
•Allow metadata to be exposed through
UTOPIA site search for better discovery of collections and
objects
•OAI-PMH
